Journal #001 - Journey of Inspiration
A Journey of Inspiration
On a recent trip to the southern part of Thailand I was in search of a few of those rare waves that can be found in that area at the right time of the year. I stayed in a very cool quiet little coastal village style area in a bungalow room perched overlooking the beach. I was able to sit on my front deck and watch the deep orange sunsets set across the silhouetted swell lines coming into the beach very much like one of those classic movies.
As I started to explore the beach and the small shops surrounding it I came across an artist in his studio working right on the beach. He worked in an eclectic studio full of his current paintings as well as his finished works that were on display. His works were amazing with so much life like detail on some and then a total modern abstract style on others - his talents were immense. He and his wife and were lovely happy people and made me very welcome as we chatted about art and styles.
I visited them a few more times just to see his progress on some of the current works, and it was during another of my visits I realised that I had been inspired by how humble and talented this artist was. On returning home it was with this inspiration I decided to pick up the brush and put down on canvas a painted memory of my trip to Thailand utilising the “X factor” theme in the “surfism” series.
As far as the surf, eventually I did score small clean waves running beautifully across a sandy bar in a leafy northern corner of a secluded bay, surfing that place until dusk in the golden sunset is something I often think of.
